A Fantastic Finish to a Fun-Filled Half Term!
What a wonderfully busy week it has been in Year 6! The classroom has been buzzing with creativity, curiosity, and plenty of hard work as we head into the Easter break.
This week, our brilliant Year 6 pupils have been writing and performing their own speeches—and what a treat it has been!
We held a year‑group competition to choose the top three speeches and the standard was so incredibly high that selecting the winners was no easy task.
The children tackled a huge range of topics with clarity, confidence, and passion. We heard persuasive arguments on everything from:
Animal cruelty
Racism
AI and the future of jobs
Longer playtimes
Gender equality
And even… bringing chicken burgers back to the lunch menu!
Many of the speeches genuinely made us rethink our opinions—true persuasion in action!
In maths, we’ve continued exploring fractions, decimals, and percentages. The children have worked incredibly hard to master converting between them and have even learnt how to find percentages of amounts. These are tricky concepts, but Year 6 have tackled them with determination and growing confidence. We’re very proud of their progress!
We were lucky to welcome visitors from Cardiff University—along with Charlie’s dad—to teach us about outer space and some seriously big questions!
Their visit left us fascinated, inspired and eager to learn more about the mysteries beyond our planet. Many curious questions were asked… and perhaps a few future astronauts were made!
In our whole-class reading sessions, we learnt about the Easter story and why Christians celebrate this important event. The children showed thoughtful understanding and respect as they explored these themes.
We even got creative and made our very own Easter wreaths to take home!
The children involved in the exciting Codi Llais singing project have been rehearsing hard this week. One of the organisers visited today and was extremely impressed with their beautiful singing. We can’t wait for the big performance after Easter!
It’s been a fun, busy, and meaningful half term in Year 6. We’ve learnt so much, grown in confidence, supported each other and continued to shine as a team.
As we head into our final term together at Thornhill Primary School, we know there are even more exciting adventures ahead.
Wishing all our families a very happy, peaceful, and enjoyable Easter holiday!
