Dydd Gwener Hapus / Happy Friday! 

As autumn arrives and spooky season begins, the children’s work this week has been anything but frightful! We have been delighted by the fantastic diary entries they have produced, drawing on the skills we focused on last week and the ideas they carefully planned on Tuesday. It has been wonderful to see the children bring their ideas together and then take on the role of editors, reading back through their work to identify and highlight the different features they included against their success criteria.

In maths, we moved on to addition, continuing to focus on place value and exploring what happens to each digit when larger numbers are added together. The children have used column addition to support their understanding and calculations. Next week, we will continue developing these skills by looking at addition involving bridging through ten, as well as introducing subtraction with larger numbers.

Our inquiry project led us to explore line drawing inspired by the work of artist David Hockney. We thought about what things make us who we are, then we considered how artists use colour, expression, and symbolism to express their identity in self-portraits. We began by practising a range of mark-making techniques to create tone and shading before applying these skills to our own drawings of different facial features. The children showed great creativity and concentration as they developed their artistic techniques.

In Welsh, the children used the conversational Welsh we have been practising during our daily Cymraeg Bob Dydd sessions to create their own comic strips. Next week, we will be learning how to talk about likes and dislikes using the sentence patterns “Dw i’n hoffi” and “Dw i ddim yn hoffi.” We are looking forward to seeing the children use these new phrases with confidence.
