A huge welcome to Year 5 and a massive well done to all of our new pupils! It has been an excellent first week back, and the teachers could not be prouder of how quickly the children have settled into their new surroundings.
Moving up to a new year group always comes with fresh expectations, but the children have hit the ground running. They spent the week learning our new classroom routines, finding their feet, and getting used to life at the far end of the school! It already feels like they have been part of Year 5 for months.
In Maths, we kicked off the term by refreshing our memories on fundamental concepts. We have been diving into place value and mathematical operations to dust off those summer cogs and build a strong foundation for the exciting maths challenges ahead.
Our Language sessions have been focused on summer holiday recounts. The children have been sharing tales of their break, which has not only given us a great window into their summer adventures, but also allowed teachers to gauge their writing skills and individual flair right out of the gate.
We launched our brand-new inquiry topic this week with a thought-provoking statement for the children to debate:
"If everyone was the same, the world would be a better place."
This single prompt sparked some truly fascinating, mature, and passionate conversations in the classroom. The children are already showing fantastic critical thinking skills, and we can't wait to see where this topic takes us.
Thank you for a wonderful first week back. Enjoy a well-deserved rest over the weekend!
Have a great weekend, everyone!
