This week's news:
Year 5 Weekly Newsletter
Another fantastic week has flown by in Year 5! We’ve transitioned from diary entries to deep-diving into the mechanics of language and the flow of our local ecosystems. Here is a look at what we’ve been up to:
This week was all about the building blocks of words. We explored prefixes and suffixes, learning how a few extra letters can completely flip a word's meaning.
Following on from our diary entries, we’ve been sharpening our pencils to master specific tenses, ensuring our storytelling is as clear as a mountain stream. Speaking of streams, the children took part in a flood-based free write to link with our "Water" topic—the creativity (and the rainfall) was overflowing!
We continued our work on Time this week, but with a suspicious twist! To practice the vital skill of reading timetables, we enlisted the help of some Among Us characters.
The classroom turned into a high-stakes investigation as we used departure and arrival times to figure out exactly who was where. Was the imposter caught?
In our Topic and ICT sessions, we turned into digital researchers. We discussed how to use effective search terms to navigate the web safely and efficiently.
The mission? To profile mystery animals found in river ecosystems. By finding specific "online profiles" for these creatures, we were able to accurately place them on our classroom diagrams. It’s safe to say we have some expert ecologists in the making!
Friday marks the start of a very special challenge! We have begun our Daily Mayday Mile to support the RNLI fundraising project. It’s been wonderful to see the stamina and spirit on display for such a vital cause. We are so grateful for the donations that have poured in so far. Your support makes a massive difference to the RNLI and shows the children the power of community action!
Hopefully the weather keeps it up into the long weekend!
Have a grand one!
