Week 2: Outdoor Learning, Millions, and Celebrating Our Uniqueness!

It has been another fantastic week in Year 5! We have taken full advantage of the dry weather by taking our learning outside, diving deep into large numbers, and continuing our thought-provoking inquiry work. Here is a look at what we've been up to:

🍃 Language: Antonyms & Synonyms in the Open Air

We decided to keep things fresh in Language this week by using our outdoor space for learning! The children took part in synonym and antonym relays, word hunts around the grounds, and outdoor writing tasks. Taking our literacy work outside was a brilliant way to build rich vocabulary while enjoying the autumn weather (mostly dry!) before the rain sets in.

🔢 Maths: Master Minded in the Millions

Building on last week’s place value work, the children have taken a giant step forward in Maths. We have been learning how to order and partition multi-digit numbers. The children tackled this challenge with real enthusiasm, stretching their skills all the way into 7-digit numbers (the millions!). It is fantastic to see their confidence growing so quickly with such large values.

🪞 Inquiry: What Makes Us Unique?

Our inquiry Statement—"If everyone was the same, the world would be a better place"—led to some beautiful classroom discussions this week. The children explored:

  • What physical and personality features could hypothetically be the same across people.

  • Why it is crucial for a thriving world that we are all different.

  • Identifying the personal qualities, talents, and traits that make each of us 100% unique.

It has been wonderful watching the children celebrate both their common ground and their individual strengths.

Thank you for another brilliant week of hard work and enthusiasm. Enjoy a restful weekend!

Have a great weekend, everyone!
