It has been an absolutely massive week in Year 5! From exploring the depths of the ocean to taking our first big steps toward Year 6, the children have had a week packed with excitement, strategy, and new faces. Here is a look at what we've been up to:
The absolute standout event of our week was our fantastic trip to the Bristol Aquarium on Wednesday. The children had a wonderful time exploring the underwater world and getting up close with some incredible marine life.
We made quite a few aquatic friends, but two absolute favorites were Mabel the Octopus and a very impressive Giant Grouper named Sheila! It was the perfect way to bring our ecosystem and water topics to life.
We kept the momentum going with Probability this week, moving from theory to some serious gameplay!
10-Sided Dice: We calculated the exact chances of rolling specific numbers and outcomes.
Card Game Strategy: The children learned how to play different card games, but with a mathematical twist. They had to think strategically about their next moves based on the likelihood of which cards were left in the deck to be picked up. We might have some future chess or poker grandmasters in our midst!
With the school year winding down, it has been a week of reflection and looking forward:
Self-Reports: We officially finished up our self-reports, putting the final touches on our reflections of Year 5.
Letters to the Future: The children put their best foot forward by writing letters to introduce themselves to their next teacher.
This all tied together perfectly with Transition Day today! The children finally got to meet their new teacher and spend some time imagining all the exciting things that await them next year.
Have a fantastic, well-deserved weekend everyone!
