Year 5 Weekly Newsletter
This week, we started researching the different planets in our solar system. The class has been comparing their sizes, distances from the sun, and unique characteristics. It has been wonderful to see so many future astronomers asking big questions about the universe!
In Maths, we have continued to strengthen our calculation skills. After solidifying our understanding of formal division methods earlier in the week, we have now moved on to problem-solving.
The children are learning how to apply their division knowledge to real-world scenarios, deciphering word problems and deciding how to handle remainders in different contexts.
Our Language lessons this week have been both educational and moving. We have been reading about and researching the life of Martin Luther King Jr., focusing on his incredible work regarding equality and civil rights.
We connected this research to our grammar focus for the week. The children have been working hard to identify and apply specific word classes—Nouns, Verbs, Adjectives, and Adverbs—to write powerful descriptions of Dr. King and his legacy. The vocabulary choices the children are making are becoming increasingly sophisticated.
