It has been another incredible, high-energy week in Year 5! From standing up to mysterious propaganda to using Pokémon cards in Maths, the children have brought immense creativity and enthusiasm to every task. Here is a look at what we've been up to:
We launched our focus on persuasive writing with a dramatic twist this week. The classroom received a official-looking poster from the "Ministry of Normal," urging everyone to blend in and be normal!
The children were quick to challenge this idea. They immediately set to work designing powerful counter-campaigns. Using strong imperative verbs, they created compelling posters encouraging everyone to embrace their individuality and proudly be themselves.
In Maths, we turned our focus to rounding numbers to the nearest 10, 100, and 1000. To make place value even more engaging, we brought Pokémon cards into the lesson!
The children calculated and rounded the attack powers of various Pokémon.
Unsurprisingly, Charizard proved to be the ultimate mathematical powerhouse of the deck!
Using cards helped everyone visualize rounding larger numbers while having a lot of fun in the process.
Building on our exploration of uniqueness, we took our inquiry discussions a step further this week. The children began asking deep questions about what "normal" actually means and whether anyone is truly 100% normal. It has been inspiring to watch them realize that our differences, quirks, and varied backgrounds are what make our school community so vibrant.
