This week's news:

We have had an incredibly focused and fast-paced week in Year 5. The children have been working hard to sharpen their skills, collaborate with their peers, and show amazing school spirit. Here is a look at what we've been up to:

🏆 A Fantastic Sports Day!

We had an absolutely brilliant Sports Day this week! Every single competitor did a fantastic job representing their houses and gave it their absolute all.

A huge well done to everyone who placed in their races and earned those valuable house points, but more importantly, well done to the whole year group. Everyone did the school incredibly proud with their sportsmanship and support for one another. We hope all of the parents had a great morning cheering them on from the sidelines!

🧮 Maths:

This week was also about building confidence for our upcoming maths tests. We spent time revising the four main operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division) to make sure our methods are rock solid.

To put our skills to the test, the children worked in cooperative groups to tackle a practice test paper. It was fantastic to see them talking through the problems, sharing strategies, and supporting one another.

📝 Home Revision: There is a practice test now available on Google Classroom! If your child wants to do a little extra revision at home this weekend, that is the perfect place to start.

🖋️ Language: Journalists at Work!

Following on from last week's planning, we have been busy writing the drafts of our newspaper reports. The classroom has felt like a real newsroom!

Once the drafts were down, we spent time evaluating our work against our success criteria. The children have done a brilliant job incorporating to features into their writing.

🏃‍♂️ Mayday Mile Reminder

Between Sports Day and our Daily Mayday Mile for the RNLI, we have definitely hit our fitness goals this week! The children's dedication to keeping active and supporting this great cause has been wonderful to see.

Have a fantastic weekend! Mr Humfreys visited us on Friday morning to tell us all about the RNLI and why we have been raising money for their cause. We will be continuing our walks into June to complete the full month's worth of miles!

Have a fantastic half term!

See you soon,

The Year 5 Team

A massive well done to Abigail and Aalayiah who won the Welsh Schools FA U10 Girls Final last night. They represented Thornhill Primary School playing for Cardiff & Vale.
