💻 Week 9: Tests Out, Tech In, and Year 6 Horizons!

The relief is palpable in Year 5 this week! We have crossed the final testing hurdle and dove straight back into some fantastic practical math, self-reflection, and creative event planning. Here is a look at our week:

🎉 WAG Testing: Mission Accomplished!

We have officially completed our final WAG test—the Maths Reasoning test is done and dusted! The children handled the entire testing period with so much maturity and effort. We are absolutely thrilled that it is all over, and the children definitely deserve a huge pat on the back for their hard work.

📊 Maths: Master Chefs of the Spreadsheet

With testing behind us, we shifted into the digital world to look at spreadsheets and Microsoft Excel data functions. The children have been learning how to turn a blank grid into a powerful calculator! We explored:

  • How to input mathematical formulae into cells (like adding or multiplying columns automatically).

  • How to use the fill-down function to instantly complete large tables without rewriting formulas.

These are brilliant, real-world tech skills that will serve them well for years to come.

📝 Language: Looking Back and Leaping Forward

In Language, we took some time for self-reflection by writing self-reports. The children looked back on their journey through Year 5, evaluating:

  • What they have enjoyed most.

  • Where they have made the biggest improvements.

  • What they might do differently next time.

We also turned our gaze to the future and had some wonderful discussions about what they are most looking forward to as they step up into Year 6 after the summer!

💧 Inquiry: Art Galleries & Big Quiz Planning

Our Water Inquiry art Production is officially underway for our final water art pieces, and the classroom is buzzing with creativity.

But that's not all—the children have also started designing their very own quiz rounds! This is all leading up to our big Quiz & Art Gallery Event at the end of term. The children are working hard to make sure it's a memorable experience for everyone who attends.

A massive well done to Abigail and Aalayiah who won the Welsh Schools FA U10 Girls Final last night. They represented Thornhill Primary School playing for Cardiff & Vale.
