This week's news:
Here we are, the last day! Wow! Where has the time gone? It only feels like a couple of weeks ago that the children were visiting their new class, colouring in their tray labels and talking about all the exciting things that awaited them in Year 3. Then, out of nowhere we were rehearsing for the Christmas concert, singing such classics as “In the castle, the giant sleeps tonight”, and “Jack now we’ve got bad beans”. Before long it was the Eisteddfod and we were getting teary at wonderful renditions of Calon Lan and being absolutely blown away by incredible poetry and instrumental renditions. Next thing we knew it was sports day and we were wowed by the passion and commitment that can be channelled into balancing a small foam egg on a plastic spoon. Now, here we are at the end of the Summer term, trays are being emptied, eggs and spoon packed safely away for next year, and the lyrics to “Jack now we’ve got bad beans” are fading away (which is probably for the best).
Like every year in primary school, this year has been unpredictable in places, not everything has gone 100% to plan, next time I visit the Big Pit for example, I will be bringing a map. The unpredictability is what makes every year so special though, the utterly wonderful and bizarre things that crop up several times a day that no amount of rigorous planning and structured school routine could have ever accounted for. This year group is so full of wonderful individuals, and I would absolutely love to single each and every one of them out for the times they’ve made us laugh, made us proud and shown us how much they can grow in a scarily short space of time - unfortunately if I was to do that I fear the word count would be far too long for the newsletter. We would like to say thank you though, to all of the children, for being their best and for coming to school ready to learn, build friendships and only very occasionally chant “67” during maths input. Also a huge thank you for all of the wonderful (and very generous gifts), we are incredibly grateful and hope everyone has such a fantastic summer holiday. Next stop, Year 4!
