🌱 Our Minibeast Inquiry

This week we learnt all about the habitats of different minibeasts and what bugs and insects need to survive. The children explored where creatures like worms, beetles, spiders, and woodlice might choose to live and why.

We then used this knowledge to design our own garden spaces, thinking carefully about what we would need to include to attract bugs and wildlife to our outdoor area. From log piles to wildflower patches, the children had brilliant ideas.

To make it even more exciting, we imagined we were visiting a garden centre and thought about how much these items would cost. The children added up their “purchases” to find the total cost — if only real garden centres were this cheap!

🔢 Maths

In maths, we continued our learning about money, recapping how to recognise and identify different coins. The children went on a corridor toy hunt, finding price tags and adding up the coins needed to buy each toy. They worked so hard counting in 2s, 5s, and 10s and combining coins to make different amounts.

✏️ Language

In language, we focused on handwriting and letter formation, making sure our tall letters are tall, our short letters are short, and our long letters sit neatly below the line (but not too far!).

We also worked on collaborative Wonder Wall sheets, where the children shared ideas about where different minibeasts might live. Their reasoning and imagination were fantastic.

🗣️ Welsh

We enjoyed playing some Welsh Helper Heddiw games this week to recap the questions and sentence patterns we have learnt so far. The children are becoming much more confident using Welsh during daily routines, particularly asking for things and saying what they want in Welsh, building up their vocabulary for the everyday things we use.

What we’ve been working on this week!
