This week's news:

Dydd Gwener Hapus pawb!

What a wonderful week it’s been — full of excitement, creativity, and so many proud moments. The children have settled back into school life beautifully after half term, and it’s been lovely to see their enthusiasm shining through in everything we’ve done.

🌼 Eisteddfod Highlights

Tuesday was our much‑anticipated Eisteddfod, and what a fantastic day it was! We are incredibly proud of every child who took part — whether they competed, performed on stage, or simply put themselves forward with confidence and courage. Their Welsh songs, poems, and artwork were a joy to see, and the supportive atmosphere they created for one another was truly heart‑warming.

📚 World Book Day Magic

Thursday brought even more excitement with World Book Day. The children arrived in the most wonderful costumes — from classic characters to creative homemade designs — and the school was full of colour and imagination. We also had some fantastic entries for our World Book Day 'looking through the keyhole' competition. A huge congratulations to our winner, Laury, for her brilliant work!

🔢 Maths Learning

In maths this week, we’ve been working hard on counting on and back, starting from different numbers to build confidence and fluency. We’ve also begun exploring place value using Dienes equipment, helping the children understand tens and ones in a practical, hands‑on way. They’ve shown great focus and we will be building on this next week.

✏️ Language and Phonics

Our language work has been full of phonics fun. We’ve been learning about plurals, thinking carefully about when to add -s and when to use -es. The children have also been introduced to the split digraph a–e, spotting it in words and using it in their own writing. Across our provision areas, they’ve enjoyed:

  • word‑building with magnetic letters
  • sound sorting using picture cards
  • writing from picture prompts
  • and being phonics detectives, hunting for our focus sounds in sentences

They’ve loved the challenge — perhaps they can spot any plurals or a–e words at home this weekend?

Best wishes, The Year 1 Team 🌟
