This week the children have enjoyed exploring the story Mouse Shapes. They used a variety of 2D shapes to draw the characters and then imagined new places for the mice to hide. Their creativity continued as they designed vehicles to help the mice escape and even worked together to create a trap for the cat. Alongside this, the children have been learning about the properties of 2D shapes. They created their own shape pictures and discovered that triangles can look very different while still having the same features. Using rulers, they practised drawing straight lines to make their own triangles.
We also completed our class bug hotel, which caused great excitement. The children made a list of which minibeasts they think might visit and made predictions about who the first guest could be. During independent learning time, the children prepared for Cool Blue’s birthday in June by making birthday cards and helping to create a party list.
As part of our topic work, each group researched a different minibeast. They began by writing down what they thought they already knew, then used books and videos to find out more. This helped them check whether their ideas were true or false and encouraged them to think like real researchers.
