This week we have been enjoying the story Keith the Cat with the Magic Hat by Sue Hendra. In our Drawing Club, the children drew Keith and his ice‑cream cat, rescued cats from trees, and even invented new hats for him. We also explored the meanings of the words resourceful, impatient, peculiar and luminescent, and the children enjoyed using them in their discussions and drawings.
In Maths, we have been learning about the value of money. The children sorted coins by colour, size and value, and practised counting in 2s and 10s. If you would like to continue this learning at home, you could set up a small shop and encourage your child to pay using the correct coins to build confidence with coin values.
We have also been researching everyone’s favourite ice cream flavour using our knowledge of tally charts. Inspired by our love of Fablas ice cream in Caerphilly, we set up our own outdoor ice‑cream shop. The children were excited to hear that Fablas has recently opened a new shop in Barry Island.
As part of our minibeast topic, we posed the question: if a bug wanted to stay in a hotel, what kind of room would it need? The children came up with imaginative ideas for our Bug Airbnb, which we hope to open soon. We have also been keeping a close eye on our vegetable patch and flower beds, which are beginning to show lovely signs of growth.
Next week, we will have P.E. on Monday and Wednesday as we begin practising for Sports Day. Children may come to school dressed in their P.E. kits on both days.
