This week the children have been diving into the legend of the Red Dragon of Wales. In Drawing Club, they created wonderful illustrations of the King inside the dragon’s cave, as well as Merlin and the dragon itself. They have been practising adventurous vocabulary such as slumber, enclosed, mystical, and wise, and using these words confidently in their storytelling.
We have been out and about around the school grounds looking for early signs of spring. The children learned how to use the iPads to take clear photographs—zooming in and out, reviewing their pictures, and deleting any that weren’t their best. They enjoyed capturing buds, blossoms, and other springtime changes.
In maths, we explored the concept of length. The children made worms of different sizes and compared them, using cubes to measure and talk about which were longer or shorter. This handsβon activity helped them develop important comparison and measurement skills.
We have also been learning about daffodils, the national flower of Wales. Using playdough, the children experimented with shaping petals and creating the trumpet, ready for our St David’s Day celebrations on Monday.
Please remember to come dressed to celebrate—there will be no P.E. on Monday.
On Thursday, we will be celebrating World Book Day. Children are welcome to come dressed as their favourite book character. We can’t wait to see their costumes and hear about the stories they love!
