Reception News

This week we have been exploring the traditional tale The Little Red Hen. The children quickly spotted that the animals in the story were not very helpful, which led to some lovely discussions about teamwork, kindness, and the importance of helping both in school and at home.

In Drawing Club, the children created wonderful illustrations of the Little Red Hen, her friends, and the farmyard where they live. They also imagined new characters who might like to share the bread and thought carefully about how the animals could say sorry and be more helpful.

The Little Red Hen even left us a bread recipe to try. The children weighed the ingredients, followed the steps, and kneaded the dough — and unlike the animals in the story, everyone worked together brilliantly. Once the bread was baked, we tasted different types of bread and voted for our favourite. We then used the results to create a bar chart, helping us learn how to collect and present data.

In Maths, we have been working with 10 frames, finding different amounts and practising how to write our numbers clearly and confidently.

Looking Ahead

Next week we will begin a new adventure with the story of The Gingerbread Man. The children are already excited to see where he might run off to.
