This week in Reception, we have been reading the story Billy's Sunflower. We learned how to draw Billy and his garden. We thought of things the sunflower could be as tall as and then took it on a journey into space! We used exciting vocabulary such as spectacular, gigantic, swayed, dropped and tumbled.

We harvested the seeds from our giant sunflower head. We are going to keep some to feed the birds in the winter and save some to plant next spring so that we can grow even more sunflowers, just like Billy in the story.

We made flowers using playdough and decorated them with seeds. We also got creative in the painting area and painted our own sunflowers to display in the classroom.

We've also been helping in the garden by picking and tasting carrots. They were delicious! We are digging up the weeds to get the vegetable beds ready for winter. Some of our pumpkins were ready to harvest! We can’t wait to taste them next week!

In Monster Phonics, we have been learning the sounds m, d and g. We have also been blending the sounds we have learned to make simple words. You could try this at home too!
