Mr Maclean - Reception teacher

Hiya! My name is Mr Maclean, occasionally known as ‘that tall man in Reception’. I have been pottering around Thornhill Primary School for 3 years, dancing with dinosaurs, pulling up enormous turnips, investigating the demise of Humpty Dumpty and loving every second of it! Each year group I have taught during my time here has been full of so many absolutely incredible individuals, and I feel really lucky to have gotten to know and work with every one of them.

I was born and grew up in Cardiff, spending most of my time reading books and going for walks, occasionally at the same time - which I can't say I'd recommend if you have a tendency to bump into things. I popped off to Exeter for a little while to study English, with a particular focus on children’s literature. I then popped back to Wales to get my PGCE and have been teaching Reception / Year 1 in Cardiff ever since.

Outside of school I still spend a lot of time reading and writing stories - I even started a creative writing club this year and have met some seriously brilliant writers. I can also be found walking around Wales with my wife Rhiannon and dog Stevie (pretending I’m not lost), playing football (pretending I’m not lost) or trying to learn Welsh (pretending dw i ddim ar goll).
