Animals can be wonderfully therapeutic and calming to those who hold and stroke them, and it can be very rewarding to learn to care for something else that is living. But not everyone can or should have a pet. Allergies, time, money and commitment all play an important part in whether or not you decide to have a pet.
If you haven't got a pet though, there are many other ways to get up close with small, furry animals. Lots of local farms have petting corners where you can hold rabbits and guinea pigs and let them snuggle into you.

If that's a bit expensive, keep an eye out for Pets At Home, who run workshops where children can go and meet/hold some pets and learn all about their care.
